Current Situation of the Fugl-Meyer Scale for Evaluation of Upper Extremity Motor Function in Stroke Patients: A Short Review
نویسندگان
چکیده
The incidence of stroke is increasing yearly, and the remaining upper limb motor dysfunction after still problematic for rehabilitation treatment. Proper assessment tools help gain additional feedback on effectiveness. Although many methods exist assessing extremity function in a clinical setting, Fugl-Meyer Upper Extremity Motor Scale most valid reliable. It has been translated into several languages different countries. clinically used as gold standard evaluating post-stroke patients due to its high operability low cost.

Translation, Validity, and Reliability of the Upper Extremity Fugl-Meyer Assessment (FMA-UE) in Persian Speaking Stroke Patients
Objectives: Fugl-Meyer Assessment (FMA) is the common scale for clinical and functional evaluation of sensorimotor conditions and related Upper Extremity (UE) dysfunction after stroke. This study was done to translate and cross-culturally adjust the original upper extremity FMA (FMA-UE) into Persian and to evaluate the psychometric properties of the translated version. Methods: A procedure of...
متن کاملImpact of Extension Splint on Upper Extremity Motor Components and Function in Chronic Stroke Patients
Objectives: Spasticity and contracture in flexor muscles of the wrist may occur after stroke, especially in which early recovery did not appear. Splints are prescribed to reduce spasticity and to prevent contracture after stroke. Although there is a few research in this field. The aim of this study was to examine the impact of the Extension splint on function, spasticity, and range of motion of...
متن کاملDevelopment and validation of a short form of the Fugl-Meyer motor scale in patients with stroke.
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE The 50-item Fugl-Meyer motor scale (FM) is commonly used in outcome studies. However, the lengthy administration time of the FM keeps it from being widely accepted for routine clinical use. We aimed to develop a short form of the FM (the S-FM) with sound psychometric properties for stroke patients. METHODS The FM was administered to 279 patients. It was then simplified ...
متن کاملUpper Extremity Functional Evaluation by Fugl-Meyer Assessment Scoring Using Depth-Sensing Camera in Hemiplegic Stroke Patients
Virtual home-based rehabilitation is an emerging area in stroke rehabilitation. Functional assessment tools are essential to monitor recovery and provide current function-based rehabilitation. We developed the Fugl-Meyer Assessment (FMA) tool using Kinect (Microsoft, USA) and validated it for hemiplegic stroke patients. Forty-one patients with hemiplegic stroke were enrolled. Thirteen of 33 ite...
متن کاملThe Test-Retest Reliability and Minimal Detectable Change of the Fugl-Meyer Assessment of the Upper Extremity and 9-Hole Pegboard Test in Individuals With Subacute Stroke
Purpose: The first step to manage motor impairment of upper limb in patients with subacute stroke is having an accurate assessment tool. The Fugl-Meyer assessment of upper extremity and 9-hole pegboard test are used to evaluate motor function and hand dexterity in stroke survivals. The present study aimed to investigate the test-retest reliability and minimal detectable change (MDC) in these tw...
